Email Management Tips

“… Ok can you send me your proposal by email?” “Sure I can what’s your email address ma’am…” That’s me chatting with the Marketing Manager of this corporate organisation.

Email is by far one of the key communication tools in the business. Either be it for internal communication (within an organisation) or external communication that is with other businesses. Despite the introduction of various messaging apps that seem to surface daily, email still holds the crown – as the long-reigning king of communication.

To be honest this is a fact you cannot run away from. I have grown with email and the momentum is still vibrant because of that I would like to share how I manage my email. Working in a fast-paced department coupled with my love for tech, I looked for a few things when it comes to my email. Cross-device accessibility, timeous notifications update, all this with a vision to have a zero inbox.

I have two emails personal (Gmail) and work email for obvious reasons. The notable difference between these two in my experience is that with Gmail I get to access my email anywhere at any time compared to my work email which is webmail. Though I can access my work mail anywhere at any time it’s the way I access it that bothers me. – I have to go through a browser login each time and that means I don’t get real-time notifications of my inbox hence I have to manually check it myself, something I don’t find proper.

📱Apps

Email apps provide me with a solution to most of my needs. So which one do I use? I know you would say because I use Gmail so I have to be using the Gmail app. No, I don’t, in my experience across all my mobile devices (phone and tablet) the app is slow, well slower than Outlook. That is why I resorted to the Outlook app on both mobile and tablet.

What a contrast Gmail from google working on Outlook from Microsoft. I played around with various apps like Samsung mail, Spark, and Aqua, including the Gmail app and Outlook. Outlook mobile topped the list in terms of a good overall experience timeous notifications, and good design just getting the job done. I could have chosen Spark, that’s a well-thought-out app it has cool features, but the unfortunate part is that the app is not fully optimised for landscape mode on an android tablet. Maybe when that is fixed I would consider it again, for now, I rolling with Outlook.
