Who would have thought that in 2023 we would witness a feud between some of the world’s richest men, Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg? It has been an exciting journey and how exciting these two can be when it comes to competition between them and their businesses. Meta is a social media Giant with billions of users and Twitter (now X) in the other corner has users in their millions. Yet, though in its millions Twitter (X) saves a unique niche. A niche difficult to compete in. Despite what’s going on we can learn a few tips expanded below.

⏳ Right time at the right place.

Twitter has been a formidable platform that commanded a certain unique authority over other platforms. Its user experience and culture are in a league of its own. The problem with going up against such an established giant is that challenging its territory can be futile and could not be done without a well-thought-out plan. This is due to the way the market perceives that brand and the platform. A time came when Elon Musk took over the platform and made drastic changes to the platform that frustrated most loyal users. There has never been a right time to challenge the giant and try to beat it at its own game, thus in response we have Mark Zuckerberg through Meta introducing a similar platform. The goal is to steal frustrated users, or should I say offer them an alternative platform to replicate what they already had on Twitter. records have been broken, and targets and challenges have been set to gain from the natural momentum threads have. The grand lesson here is to always consider the right time and the right place to launch a business/product.

♟ Strategise like your life depends on it!

What’s fascinating about this is how Meta took advantage of the situation and quickly launched threads. This speaks to the way meta strategises because coming up with a product to compete on a world market takes time and a high degree of mastery to realise success. Meta is not a new player in the social media platform space hence to pull a move like this means that it has been planning and waiting in the shadows to take on Twitter, without compromising on its reputation. News has it that Meta might have used former Twitter employees that got laid off by Musk and they used some of Twitter’s secrets. Who knows if that’s true or not? I tip my hat to Mark for this move; thus, the lesson strategise like your life depends on it and have plans A, B, C up Z.

🧬 The substance of a business.

solutions to problems are the foundation of any business – The world pushes people over the cliff, making them experience life from a perspective that somehow blurs their sight of the worldview. From this point of view people embark on an entrepreneurial journey with a vision that fails to speak to this third lesson we learn from the clash between Twitter and Threads, “the substance of a business” which is the problem it is solving in community and how it’s going to realise profits. Meta notices a problem in the market, a people who feel betrayed and exploited by their go-to social platform brand and responded with an alternative that is Threads. Threads seem to be giving people a safe haven. A third lesson from this feud focuses on the substance of a business or product.

💪 Know and utilise your strengths.

Sometimes in business, simplicity is king. a solution doesn’t have to be complicated for it to work well. in the case of Threads competing with Twitter instead of starting from the ground zero, Meta utilised its already existing Instagram loyalty. It leveraged its existing resources and strengths rather than starting a platform out of the blue. Meta recognised its strength and has leveraged it creating an unfair advantage. Instagram is its strength, and unique resource that it exploited to get a head start.

Keep learning and stay vigilant, the world of business can be full of surprises.
