How to present like an Apple Event Presenter

I like it when someone’s work is well thought out to the last detail. Such effort helps us push the boundaries, explore uncharted waters and push the world as we know it to new heights. With that in mind, there is one among many brands that I believe has been consistent at putting on the work to the last detail. Apple. An American tech Company valued at around 2.7 billion as of 25 Sept 2023. Now among its many innovative products, something that stands out is the way those products are introduced to the world at the famous Apple Events. It takes greatness to share greatness as the bible has rightfully put it “good trees are seen by their fruits”. Here is how to present like an Apple presenter.

🤝Introduce yourself and what you will present on

It is seamless how each speaker is introduced during the Apple Event. Except for the first speaker, each speaker does not introduce themselves rather, the previous speaker introduces the topic and the next speaker. Of course, the introduced speaker doesn’t then reintroduce him/ herself. Without wasting the audience’s time he/she goes straight into the presentation. When done he introduces the next topic and speaker.

Introducing yourself satisfies one element of the rhetorical triangle, Ethos, the appeal to the speaker’s status or authority. This no doubt makes the audience more likely to trust the speaker. The Apple Event goes a step further by showing the name and position of the speaker to strengthen their authority on the topic being presented. So, introduce yourself and what you will present, not forgetting to mention your authority whilst doing so.

🎯Hit the Notes, state your case

Now the audience knows who you are and what you are going to talk about. The next thing is to deliver. Go straight into the presentation and present your case as simply as possible. Remember the world has become a noisy jungle with distractions everywhere. Don’t give your audience a chance to be disturbed and have their focus shifted away from you. Make the presentation interesting using visuals and audio aids where possible. Also, be audible. Make sure your voice is confident, authoritative and clear. This makes it easy for the audience to listen and remember the most crucial takeaways of your presentation. After all, that’s the goal of your presentation.

📃No Jargons, No Stammering, no filler words

When making a presentation there are fundamentals that you should keep in mind. One of the key ones is to make sure you communicate well with your audience. There is nothing as discouraging as preparing a very good presentation and the intended audience fails to get the message. Apple ensures that the message is coded well and uses no jargon. This is Communication Skills 101, as it ensures that every demographic gets the message, the elite, the young, the old and the not educated ones.

Make sure whilst delivering the presentation there are no stammering & filler words. This discredits you if done in a very bad way. Unless you are a well-established authority you will be riding on other means to retain your credibility. A rule of thumb do not stammer and do not use filter words

✅Conclude with a summary of your key points

When done with the presentation, do the audience a favour and remind them of what you have shared with them. It sounds silly but research has it is that we remember what is said at the beginning and at the end of a presentation. In this case, as we have learnt our presentation will start by highlighting what we are going to speak about, and now it ends with a summary of our key points. This way you can be assured that the audience got what you presented which is the end goal.

Another research states how we forget Information. The forgetting curve. Taking a leaf from this you will find that we tend to easily forget information that we learn once. But the help of spaced repetition at the right intervals helps us retain more for longer. This means a summary of key points/takeaways at the end of our presentations will act as spaced repetition to the audience hence helping them retain more of what they have just learnt.

Making a presentation can be a challenge, after all, everyone has stage fright. Practice and a little drive to improve your craft are all that is needed to get ahead. Remember to introduce yourself, state your case, without jargon, stammering and filler words. then lastly summarise what you have just shared. The best of luck with your next presentation. Nail it like an Apple Presenter.
