One of the most iconic inventions back in the days was the invention of television, which led to the creation of a whole new level of entertainment, business sector and above all has influenced societal culture. Nowadays, video has become a product that is used to offer entertainment, education and as a way to relay information or news to the masses. The business aspect of videos has paved the way to various innovations as people diversify from television – talk about YouTube, Netflix, social media platforms such as Tiktok and Facebook which have managed to widen the options one can choose from to watch video content don’t forget the movie industry, the camera industry. Given the wide variety of choices to select from definitely one will favour a single platform more than the other. So Why YouTube?

🛳 Captain of my Ship

if there is one thing that makes me vote for YouTube is the freedom YouTube gives me. I first experienced this effect or this privilege should l say, when my family got the DStv PVR Decoder. it was a game-changer when it was introduced, why? Because of its ability to pause, rewind\fast forward and record programmes.

There was this luxury of recording a movie/programme whilst doing other business. Now l could go do my house chores all afternoon knowing l will catch up on my favourite TV shows when I m done. I could even record a month’s programming and binge watch it one weekend, no need to feel that I m missing out.

YouTube gives me the same privileges, I watch what I want when I want, no need to worry about missing a video or feeling the need to watch something so as not to miss it. this makes me the captain of my ship, I m in charge here.

âš’ Tailored content variety

The model of YouTube is that however can make and upload videos can do that, meaning you can find a video about almost anything from how to cook beacon to how to assemble a car, you can find the latest music video to the lecture on how to solve algebra. Other than jokes and short films I like creators who teach things that change my life for the better in an entertaining way. you don’t get that from a movie or a TV show (well some TV shows give you that) but YouTube does a better job. you want to be a doctor check out a day in the life of a doctor see what they have to go through daily, do the same if you want to be a lawyer a software developer etc.

believe it or not, it’s now like my second google search. ask me to assemble a table and I have no idea how it’s done. I m pulling out my phone tap YouTube and type how to assemble a table, chances are there is a video someone made demonstrating how it’s done, after say 10min I m no longer a no clue guy rather I m a pro now. it makes life easy when you have such power in your pocket.

👨🏾‍🎤 Value Entertainment

When I started my university journey, I had access to a lot of YouTube Content. Mainly I was searching for Photoshop tutorials and dance videos. then there came the world of vine compilations, I enjoyed them as well and that was it. fast forward to my final year I realised the life-changing value content YouTube had. it definitely changed my life. I believe it came at the moment in life where I really needed it.

I had no TV at school so my go-to source of content that made sense was YouTube – this time I got entertained whilst learning at the same time. it hit differently. some of the lessons leant I believe helped me through the remaining part of my university of which I did great compared to the first years. I remember looking forward to watching that video on productivity after a long day of studying.

conclusion

YouTube is cool, good and great though there are other sources of video out there it still remains my number one go-to platform. God bless the creators who inspire and make a leaving out of it, with tools that help them create more meaningful content.
